Introdução: Um dos problemas mais frequentes e graves enfrentados pelos idosos são as quedas. O medo de cair representa outro problema de saúde significativo em idosos. A percepção de apoio social proporciona vantagens nos níveis físico, cognitivo, emocional, comportamental e social. Objetivo: Examinar a relação entre medo de cair e apoio social percebido em idosos com histórico de quedas que vivem na comunidade. Metodologia: Estudo descritivo, correlacional, transversal, realizado no centro comunitário para idosos do programa Desenvolvimento Familiar Integral (DIF) do município de Torreón, Coahuila, México. A amostra foi composta por 129 participantes e a amostragem foi não probabilística por conveniência. Os instrumentos aplicados aos participantes foram a Ficha de Dados Sociodemográficos (FDS), a Escala Internacional de Eficácia de Quedas (FES-I) e a Escala Multidimensional de Suporte Social Percebido (MSPSS). Resultados: 66,7% (f=86) eram homens, com média de idade de 71,72 anos (DP= 7,24). 42,6% (f. 55) têm um medo elevado de cair e 34,9% (f. 45) têm um medo moderado de cair e apenas 22,5% (f. 29) mencionam ter um medo baixo de cair novamente. Conclusões: Esses achados ressaltam a necessidade de implementação de estratégias integrais de cuidado geriátrico que considerem aspectos biomédicos e sociais, com foco na prevenção e promoção da autonomia.
