Design Sets the Table: Coining Design Agency Through Social Entrepreneurship

Abstract

To cope with the demands of production and the capitalist whirlwind, during the industrial revolution, Design fractioned and was isolated from its characteristic reflection processes. Design was left subject to other disciplines and economic gain. Through social entrepreneurship, Design can coin agency in social transformation and bring its visions into action, reintegrating all the fractions of the Design process into a single reflective piston. Through social entrepreneurship, Design conquers a position from which it can define with greater agency the opportunity or the system to reconfigure. In addition, it creates an approach through which the Design guidelines are delimited through the Design process, achieving a privileged position for social transformation. Instead of Design being aware of its subordination to the corporate world, Design can perceive itself as the enabler of the opportunity to enterprise, increasing its field of reflection and action. Therefore, Design’s transformational power is boosted through social entrepreneurship.
