Abstract

This study aims to demonstrate the strong influence that the development of the disciplines of canon law, church history and the work of moralists in the Venetian Republic, mainly in the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, had over the scholars in the Western Indias, which can be proved by the comparative analysis of the literature produced by European and American canonists, in addition to the presence of the venetians in the libraries of the Audiencies lawyers in Hispanic America.
